Bird Outing with Tony Bingham and SoCal Bird Nerds

Bird Outing and Art Connection with Tony Bingham and SoCal Bird Nerds

Saturday, August 15, 2026
8:00–11:00 AM
Coleman Creek, Wynola, near Julian

Join artist Tony Bingham and SoCal Bird Nerds for a guided bird outing along Coleman Creek, followed by an outdoor talk connecting the area’s natural environment with its history and Bingham’s artistic practice.

The group will explore the approximate site of Coleman Camp, an African American community associated with the Julian gold rush whose physical traces have largely disappeared from the landscape. Following the bird outing, Bingham will discuss his multimedia artwork in Field Notes on Memory, currently on view at the California Center for the Arts Museum, and its connections to Coleman Creek, local habitats, history, and memory.
